»5/4/2008 -- Red Lion Show and a
New Album!
I'm happy to report that the month of May promises some very
good things.
#1 - The band will be playing our first show at The Red Lion
on Bleecker Street. The venue is a village staple and we hope
to be there often!
#2 - We spent all of April in the recording studio (on a
dare, believe it or not) and kicked out a BRAND NEW ALBUM.
Entitled "The Unexplorer", we're just finalizing
artwork and then we'll be releasing it into the wild. In the
meantime, you can listen to a few of the new tracks over on
our Media page and even download
the new song, "In A Dream".
»3/31/2008 -- Desmond's Show / New
MP3s
A late, but sincere thanks to everyone who came out to our
show at Desmond's on the 20th. We had a blast and it's always
a good feeling to pack the room and play some rock n' roll!
And, of course, yet another happy birthday to the one and
only Ray Vazquez. (Yes, I realize that there are probably
some other Raymond Vazquez's in the world, but you know what
I mean...) A birthday is always a great excuse to make a weeknight
even more of a party.
Finally, if you head over to MySpace,
you can hear some more MP3s. I just posted a few more tracks
from The Waiting Room as well as an acoustic demo of a new
song that many of you have been commenting on at the shows.
Enjoy!
Stay tuned for lots more in the next few weeks and months
and hope to see you at Fat Baby on 4/25.
»1/13/2008 -- It walks!!
It's official: As of Thursday, 1/10/2008 I have officially
returned to the land of the bipedal. As a result of van
accident while on tour in September, I have been unable
to walk for more than 3 months now. Well...all that's changed
now. On Thursday, the doctor checked me out and declared me
officially recovered enough to start putting weight on the
leg again.
Granted, I walk like an 80-year-old woman after a few drinks
and a nasty fall, but I'm walking! It's been a long, hard
bunch of months, but I can really see the light at the end
of the tunnel now. It's indescribably nice to be able to put
aside my crutches and do simple stuff like carry a drink from
one room to another - all those things that you don't think
about ever being so difficult until they are.
So...to those of you who have asked, the plan is now to do
a few more weeks of physical therapy and then head straight
back to NYC. I'll be back by no later than the first weekend
of February and possibly even sooner.
Wish me luck and send me all your good walking vibes!
Oh yeah, and a belated Happy New Year to everyone!
»11/2/2007 -- Van Crash in Ohio While on Tour
The whole story is pretty long you can read all the details
here, but the basic summary is
that, while on tour as guitarist with Oh
My God, we got into a terrible van accident in Ohio. We
were hit head-on at 60 mph and all of us are just very, very
happy to be alive. All the band members have broken bones
of various sorts, but, thankfully and miraculously, no spine
or brain injuries or scary things like that.
I myself suffered a broken nose, a fractured right hand, and a severely
broken left leg. The nose and hand are almost completely healed, but the
leg is taking longer. It will heal, but while it does, I am staying with
my parents in Oklahoma until I can walk again. The doctors tell me January,
at which point I'll be back in NYC and back making music.
So that's the scoop. Some of you knew; some of you didn't. My heartfelt
thanks to those of you who have called, written, or sent gifts. Your love
and support has been invaluable to me in my recovery, and I hope to see
you all soon!
»4/7/2007 Lots of things are afoot in the
upcoming months. To start with, Matt will be touring throughout
June and July as the guitarist for Chicago indie-rock stalwarts
Oh
My God. If you haven't heard them yet or seen their live
show, you're in for a treat. Stay tuned for tour dates.
We've posted some photos from our
last show at Fat Baby. Many thanks to Tina and Marc for the
camera work.
Check out our upcoming shows and
come see the band! We've got new material, new harmonies,
new clothes, new haircuts, and a new lease on life. And there's
even talk of a small Midwestern tour in June. It's gonna be
a hot summer!
»3/28/2007 A giant thanks to all those who
came out for our first full band show at Fat Baby last night.
We had a friggin' blast! That's all there is to say, really...
»3/17/2007 Snowstorms are great. Especially
after a week of nice weather. Really emphasizes that "cozy"
feeling of being stuck in the house again. Plus, everyone
looks really cool in the big, puffy coats. Much better than
all that tight-fitting spring and summer gear. Hate that stuff.
On the plus side, I've been playing with a full band again.
Rehearsing now and getting ready to do some shows. More info
soon, but it's gonna rock. (Is that cliche to say? I mean,
it's totally true - it IS gonna rock - but I always feel like
I don't wear enough spandex to be able to say that with the
proper, non-ironic emphasis. Hmm...I guess I should either
buy some spandex or embrace my inner rock dork...)
»2/27/2007 I'm happy to report that I'm
all settled in my new home in Brooklyn and have been spending
a good amount of my time going to shows and playing at open
mics. It's been a good time so far and I'm meeting lots of
other musician types of all sorts. Oh yeah. And I also got
a gig next Sunday night at the Sidewalk. Come check it
out if you're around...
»1/29/2007 Hey all, it's been an exciting
time these past few months. Not only did the CD finally come
out (and you can purchase your very own copy here),
but I've also moved from my temporary home in Chicago back
to the crowded-but-friendly environs of New York City. I've
got a new place in Brooklyn and I'll be moving all my stuff
there in a few days. Wish me luck (and feel free to volunteer
to help me carry stuff) and keep an eye out for new shows.
I'll be getting things rolling again shortly, both solo and
with some really great musicians I know back in the Big Apple.
(Like this
guy...) Hope everybody's new year is off to a great start
and hopefully I'll see you all soon. -- Matt
